Languages & Literary Studies Resource Center
RC Assistants provide general services to the Lafayette community. They open and close the RC’s (Pardee 418 and 419) in a timely manner as well as greet students and monitor the use and distribution of equipment, software and materials. They proctor student work and help as needed. They also monitor and help ensure a safe testing environment.
Most RC Assistants are intermediate -advanced level students or native speakers of the languages taught at Lafayette. RC Assistants are asked to give impromptu extra help in their
native or second language to students who use the RC for assignments; these assignments may include different kinds of movie projects, workbook activities, conversation practice, paper writing and other types of portfolio items.
There is some clerical work, preparation of materials for classes or club events, e.g., poster assembly, Web searches, dubbing and digitization of materials, feedback on student work. Students will have the opportunity to receive basic training in a variety of software programs. so that they may assist faculty and students with projects or questions.
Proctors help out during class workshops and serve as a faculty liaison. They will learn how to troubleshoot simple problems.
RC Assistants are expected to help maintain a clean and tidy environment in the RC , beginning/end of their work shift.
