SPRING 2024 -TUTOR/MENTOR

AMERICA READS PROGRAM

 

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A FEDERAL WORK-STUDY POSITION - STUDENTS MUST HAVE FEDERAL WORK-STUDY TO QUALIFY. 

Job Description:  

  • America Reads tutors mentor/tutor individuals and groups of children from the Easton Area School District.
  • Tutors work in various programs supported by the local district schools and community partner programs, including after-school and in-school programs.
  • Tutors work with a range of students in elementary through high school levels, depending on the tutor's individual preference, availability, and skills.
  • Tutors gain skills and knowledge about the education system and the entities that support it.
  • Tutors work as part of an America Reads Team of tutors.
  • Tutors participate in Education and Reflection Sessions as part of their tutoring. These sessions allow tutors to develop further skills and find support within our America Reads Group and Tutors are paid for their time.
  • Leadership development opportunities are also benefits of participation in America Reads.

Campus location: Greater Easton Community. 

  • Tutors work in community partner sites including elementary schools, public libraries, after-school programs, etc.
  • TRANSPORTATION IS PROVIDED

Hours per week:  

  • Approximately 2-10 hours per week, depending on the tutor’s availability.

Required work schedule:  

  • Based on the student's availability.
  • Hours fall between 8am-7pm, Monday-Friday, with no tutoring during Lafayette breaks.

Payrate:

  • 8.50/hour to start
  • Periodic Raises

Desired skills:   

  • We are looking for individuals who are passionate about education and the success of the children in their academic experience.
  • Tutors should be professional, organized, committed, reliable, and proactive. Creativity is encouraged.
  • Tutors should have some experience working with, tutoring, and or mentoring children and be able to work as part of a team.

Requirements:

Tutors will be required to have the following background checks paid for by Lafayette College (instructions will be given if hired for a tutor position):

  • Pennsylvania State Background Check
  • Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Current Tuberculosis test
  • FBI Fingerprint
  • Mandated Reporter Form
